Healthy Habits Store

I'm Vicky a wife and mom. My two daughters Sunny and Emily inspired my interest in natural things and healthy habits... 31 years ago (today).

I was just sitting here at my desk thinking about all of the people who I know and many that I don’t know have taken some time out of their day to read my blog, connect with me on facebook. Thank you! I think you are AWESOME!

When I found out I was pregnant I bought the book "Husband Coached Childbirth" by Dr. Bradley. My first step towards creating healthy habits. Thanks to the great advice in this book we were able to deliver two beautiful healthy baby girls.

The nurse: "Congratulations, here's your beautiful baby girl Mrs. Taylor" ... I remember feeling so unprepared. Ok, Dr. Bradley told me how to have the baby, BUT WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Sunny was crying really loud and I couldn't get her to stop. So I'm pregnant, then I have this baby, and suddenly I'm suppose to be an expert at being a mother?

Chuck had to change her first diaper... I was afraid I'd hurt her because of the umbilical cord and all. Did any of you new mom's feel the same way?

Junk Food Junkie

Being a junk food junkie I passed on my picky eating habits to my girls. They only wanted to eat pizza, cheeseburgers and fries.

The problem with a diet with lots of cheese is the way it cloggs up your intestines. Which I was about to find out.

Our youngest found this out at just 2 years old, she always had a stomach ache.

One day she was so clogged up that I had to give her a post card to look at to relax so the impacted stool could come out.

I felt so sorry for her... and like a bad mom.

How Can I get my "picky eaters" To Eat More Veggies?

My journey into healthy habits begins.

Browsing the bookstore I found a book: "Rapid Healing Foods" by Ben Davis.

It had great advice like carrots feed the eyes, celery feeds the nerves, onions and fresh garlic are natural antiobiotics.

Spinach, bok choy, lettuce, cabbage, grapes, watermelon, and prunes are "rapid healing foods" for the digestive system.

The idea of "rapid healing foods" rang true to me.

Rapid Healing Foods My Dad Fed Me

My father was born in Canton, China and was a gifted Oriental Chef who owned his own restaurant in Washington D.C.

I remember when I was little and caught a cold my father lovingly prepared Egg Drop Soup ... Chow Mein with lots of bok choy, snow peas and onions... or Beef Stew with fresh onions, carrots, potatos, tomatoes, celery, grated ginger and a little orange peel.... and I'd feel better.

I decided to experiment with "rapid healing foods"... for Emily's sluggish digestive system I cooked spinach, bok choy and turnip greens.

Yes my picky eaters complained: "I don't like spinach". I would tell them: "That's what you mind thinks... but you body is saying I love spinach... I'm hungry for spinach."

To get them into the "healthy habit" of eating more veggies I cut up fresh brocolli they called (trees) and cauliflower (flowers) and served them with ranch dressing.

I served them brocolli with cheese sauce.

When I make spagetti... I sneak some fresh spinach or thin strips of steamed zuchinni on top of the spagetti noodles & cover it with sauce.

Slowly Emily's digestive system began improving.

Fruit and Veggie Capsules

My sister (who was raising 4 healthy kids) told me about these concentrated fruits and vegetables in a capsule that were working good on her kids... and might help Emily.

Hmm... Imagine concentrated fruits & veggies .... no chopping, cooking or "fighting" to get my girls to eat them.

What might a "dose" of concentrated fruits & veggies do for their body?

Would they work? I'd never know if I didn't try them.

Feeding Emily's Digestive System

"Assimilaid" is concentrated fruits and vegetables (in a capsule) that "feed" the digestive system.

Emily was my guinea pig. I put a capsule of "Assimilaid... on Emily's tongue and having her drink water and put her head down so the capsule would float down her throat.

What a good sport;)

Results?

The results? It worked!

A few days later she went to the bathroom her stools were soft and elimination was effortless. No more stomach aches... no more constipation.

I think because Emily's digestive system was young... it didn't take much for her to notice a difference.. concentrated fruits & vegetables that nourished her digestive system so her body worked the way it should.

Over the years I found lots of "Healthy Habits" that have benefited my daughters.

That's why I've started writing this Healthy Habits Store Blog to make these things available to anyone who'd like to try them to see if they work for you like they worked for me.
